Mukesh Ambani’s Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) will mark its return to the Telecom sector with the commencement of its 4G services in 2013-2014. RIL had procured the license for broadband wireless access (BWA) by the end of 2010 once it acquired a 95 percent stake in Infotel Broadband Services Ltd for $863 million.
Once rolled out the service is surely going to offer high speed internet browsing and data downloads at speeds up to 100GB. RIL has geared up itself high to put up towers across the length and breadth of the country and laying a nationwide optic fiber network. 4G services have never been tested together over such a large geographic area.
The company intends to cut its expenditure by independently setting up towers across the nation. According to the company it will set up a tower for $18,000 while $ 72,000 has been fixed by leading operators.
No details regarding the exact date of roll out services or the cost benefits have been revealed by the company officials. It has already started its work with equipment vendors such as Alcatel, Huawei and ZTE.
