Sony launches waterproof, ultra-slim Xperia Tablet Z
Japanese tech giant Sony has unveiled a 10.1-inch Android tablet, the Xperia Tablet Z.

The tablet, unveiled at Mobile World Congress, is waterproof that you really can take into the bath and then use it with wet fingers.

The Xperia tablet is thin and light, but solid enough to feel that it won't flex in your hands, the Telegraph reports.

With 4G and at 6.9mm thin, it weighs just 495g and runs on Google's Android operating system.

According to the paper, Sony says that in large part it expects the tablet to be used within the home, either as a companion device or as an additional screen.

That's why it's concentrated on excellent graphics, thanks to a quadcore Snapdragon S4 processor, and that waterproof and dustproof function.

Sony launches 10.1 inch quad-core Xperia Z at MWC

Sony has launched its Xperia Z tablet at the Mobile World Congress today. The 10.1 inch quad-core processor based tablet will be the ‘lightest 10-inch LTE tablet in the world’ and is water and dust resistant like the Xperia Z smartphone.

This tablet will sport a 10.1 inch razor-sharp, super-bright TFT screen as impressive as HDTV (HD Reality Display) The company uses its expertise of its BRAVIA TV engineers to bring crystal clear display to the user. The display resolution is 1920 by 1200 pixels.

The company also has eliminated the layer of air in the construction of Xperia Tablet Z, bringing the touch panel closer to the display. The OptiContrast panel also makes the screen less reflective even under bright sunlight.

This tablet which weighs 495 grams runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro APQ8064+MDM9215M quad core processor clocked at 1.5 GHz in combination with the Adreno 320 graphics processor unit. A bunch of 2 GB RAM to support this high speed processor makes the tablet ideal for 3D gaming and watching live TV.

The tablet runs the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean Operating System.

The 10.1 inch tablet sports a 8.1 megapixel camera with 16x digital zoom. The camera sports ‘Exmor R for mobile sensor’ which is the mobile version of the revolutionary Sony ‘Exmor R’ sensor, that was developed to take exceptional photographs in candlelight. The primary camera lets you take pictures with low noise level, even in low-light conditions.

The front camera is a 2 megapixel one is also powered with the Sony Exmor R for mobile sensor so that the user can have high-quality chats even in less than high-quality lighting conditions.

This thin and light tablet is water and dust resistant, with a super-strong glass display. Whether you’re surfing poolside or scrolling through a recipe with wet fingers, Xperia™ Tablet Z can take it.

The high IP55 and IP57 rating makes it unaffected by 30 minutes under water and withstand water jets.
The tablet has also been tested against dust, by putting it into a dust chamber, and it remained unaffected.

The phone offers an internal memory of up to 16 GB which can be expanded. The capacity can be expanded via the use of a microSD card up to 64 GB.

The Xperia Z tablet is faster in connectivity also. The tablet supports 4G/LTE, as the 4G/LTE modem is built-in into the SnapdragonS4 Pro processor. It is 10 times faster than the 3G internet connections.

For entertainment the tablet is PlayStation certified, allows 3D gaming, Video streaming, supports access to Sony Entertainment Network, FM Radio with RDS and TV Launcher application.

The tablet has a special ‘Stamina mode’ which saves the wasted battery drain by recognising when the tablet display is off and turning off functions which are not needed, while keeping the notifications the user want.

The company says this 10 inch Xperia Z tablet will be available in White and Black colour options. According to Techradar, the Wi-Fi only version will be priced at £399/$499 and the 4G/LTE will be available at £499/$599.
