Taj Television to act as agent for Zee, Turner and Ten Sports

Two months after the distribution joint venture (JV) between Star India and Zee Turner called MediaPro dissolved; Zee has decided to hand over its distribution to Taj Television India, a wholly owned subsidiary of Zee Entertainment.

While initially Taj Television was the sole distributor of Ten Sports channels, it will now act as agent for Zee Entertainment, Zee Media and Turner along with Ten Sports.

According to sources the move is to integrate all the Zee channels in one bouquet and give an additional push to the whole network.

Ten is associated with their sports channels and sports channels distribution is being handled by TEN only. So, Zee might have given then additional responsibilities as they might be good in this work.

Taj Television India Pvt. Ltd, a subsidiary of Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL), will distribute over 47 leading television channels belonging to ZEEL, Zee Media Corp. Ltd and Turner International India Pvt. Ltd.

The agency will also distribute Zindagi, a recently-launched general entertainment channel.

“I am very pleased to announce that Taj Television, which earlier was distributing Ten Sports channels, will now distribute all the channels of Zee Entertainment and Zee Media Corp., while also representing Turner channels as its authorized agent. Arun Kapoor, who has successfully led Media Pro for the last three years, would continue to provide leadership to Taj Television. Rajesh Sethi would continue to be the CEO for Sports broadcasting network of ZEE,” Punit Goenka, managing director and chief executive officer of Zee, said in a statement.

Recently, the sector regulator Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) disallowed aggregation of channels of multiple broadcasters in one bouquet. Earlier, the ZEEL channels were distributed by Media Pro Enterprises India Pvt. Ltd. However, the three-year-old distribution venture set up between Zee Turner Ltd and Star Den Media Services Pvt. Ltd to jointly distribute their channel bouquets was dissolved after the change in regulations. Following the development, both Star and Zee have been beefing up their independent sales teams.
