The bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh is having spillover effect on the media as well. Making the first move, Telugu media baron Ramoji Rao-owned Eenadu Television has launched ETV3, a news channel that will cater specifically to the newly created state of Telangana. More news broadcasters are expected to follow suit. With the launch of ETV3, Eenadu Television’s other news channel ETV2 will become an Andhra Pradesh-focused channels. The residuary state of Andhra Pradesh comprises coastal Andhra and Rayalseema regions. The company is planning to rename the two channels and has got the necessary approvals for the same from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB). The name change is expected to take place shortly. While ETV2 will be renamed ETV Andhra Pradesh, ETV3 will become ETV Telangana. The move is in keeping with Ramoji Rao’s vision of having state-specific channels to cater to the news needs of that particular state.
