Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has sought the stakeholders' views on prescribing a "financial disincentive on basic telephone service and mobile telephone service operators for non-compliance with the benchmark for the network service quality parameters at a rate not exceeding Rs 50,000 per parameter for the first non-compliance."
For subsequent non-compliance, Rs 100000 per parameter would be levied, Trai said.
For example, if call drop rate benchmark of (less than) two per cent is not met by an operator in the first quarter after coming into force of these regulations, a financial disincentive not exceeding Rs 50,000 would be imposed. In case, in any of the subsequent quarters the benchmark for the same parameter ie call drop rate benchmark is not met, financial disincentive not exceeding Rs 100000 will be imposed by the authority.
