Telenor India is open to buying spectrum in the next auction to add data airwaves to its existing 1800 MHz band, Sharad Mehrotra, the new India CEO of the Norwegian telecom company, told ET's Gulveen Aulakh in his first media interview since taking over. The company will keep profitability as its top priority while deciding on options. Telenor India will also withdraw all special packs to comply with the new net neutrality rules

Telenor was the first to offer products on WhatsApp and Facebook, which was a USP. Have you stopped the services as per the new Trai guidelines? Won't it be a setback to your business?

It is good that we have clarity on net neutrality. The guidelines are quite elaborative, the team is looking at them. We follow the laws of the land and will make sure that we work on compliance based on the guidelines. Customers are choosing us because of our 'sabse sasta' voice offering and they start to use data as well. Customers are looking for a bouquet of services such as offers on voice, Internet and products like insurance. We don't see any challenge to our positioning in the market.
