This kind of activities are not happening first time from ESS...
Because, ESS bagged BCCI rights in the month of April. Eliminating NEO and bringing Star into picture was more a political stunt than a normal business deal.
ESS again have to pat whopping Rs 3800 crore which is a very high amount. Secondly as they say they are not charging Advertisers separately for HD feed is utter nonsense. To keep advertisers happy they are screwing DTH and subscribers by charging such an high subscription.
As far as I know ESS has renewed the deals with Tata Sky & Videocon some 4-5 months back and till then they were charging with little increment but now they are charging high amount to encash exclusive telecast and match of India-Pakistan. And all new agreement with DTH Operators will cost high. So, other operators may soon remove these channels.
I wish that India-Pakistan match is cancelled and ESS make a hefty loss
