The massive drop comes after the reduction on excise duty on electric and hybrid cars under the National Electric Mobility Mission Plan (NEMMP). According to the revised rates the excise duty on the car has come down from 24.5 per cent to 12.5 per cent. This means that the Camry Hybrid will now be retailed at 30.90 lakh, instead of its initial price of 33.20 lakh (Both ex-showroom, Delhi).
Toyota isn't the first car maker with a hybrid or electric car to share the benefits of the reduced excise duty with their customers. Recently. country's leading car manufacturer Maruti Suzuki India also slashed prices of the Ciaz SHVS and Ertiga SHVS models by 69,000 and 62,000 respectively. This wave of price reduction on hybrid and electric car might not be just limited to Toyota and Maruti Suzuki, considering the Mahindra Reva could join the band wagon soon by reducing the price of the e2o.
