Twitter app now available for Nokia S40 phones





Twitter has released an official app for Nokia Series 40 phones. Its feature list looks fairly rich, and the app offers much of the functionality of its smartphone counterparts. Within the app there are five tabbed views to choose from: Timeline, Mentions, Connect, Me, and Compose.

Like most featurephone platforms, S40 runs Java apps, so it wouldn't be too much work for Twitter to release the app for a wider range of phones. Series 40 may not be too popular in the US or Europe, but over the past years Nokia has been targeting emerging markets with phones like the Asha series with a great deal of success.

Twitter today introduced targeted Tweets, an enhancement that enables brands to reach specific audiences on Twitter without first sending a Tweet to all followers.

Now global brands that have different launch dates for several countries can send tailored messages at different times, customized for the users in each country. Mobile app providers who only want to reach customers on one device can do so without also sending the message to desktop users.

They have been testing this for several weeks with a group of current advertisers including @British_Airways, @CocaCola,The Washington Post (@wpsocialreader), and @Wendys. The feature is now available to all advertisers globally who use Promoted Tweets.

Twitter may soon allow you download your old tweets


Twitter CEO Dick Costolo told reporters of The New York Times that the microblogging site is developing a new tool that will allow users to download a file to recover all their previous tweets.
Costolo said, "We're working on a tool to let users export all of their tweets. You'll be able to download a file of them."

He further added that while users will be able to dig through their own tweet archives, there are no promises of a feature that will allow them to access all the tweets posted to the site from every user.

Twitter working on a tool that allows users to retrieves old tweets

Twitter is reportedly working on a new feature that will enable users to see their whole tweet history. According to Twitter's CEO Dick Costolo, the new tool will help users to download a file of their twitter history.

As of now users can only check out the last few thousand tweets. There are some third party sites and apps that enable users to have a backup of their tweets, but they are mostly costly and tedious. Third party sites such as Politwoops enable users to see history of tweets of certain people. One recently released site, called oldtweets, allows users root through some of the first messages ever sent through Twitter’s servers.
It may be noted that Facebook already has a backup system, called expanded archive, for its users in place. Facebook users can import an archive of their Facebook photos and messages whenever they want. The archive includes photos, messages, videos, wall posts and friends and email addresses of them. Facebook recently also updated its Download your Information tool.
