Union Minister of State for Minorities Affairs Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has been convicted by Rampur court in Uttar Pardesh for breaching prohibitory orders during 2009 Lok Sabha elections. The punishment entails one year of imprisonment and Rs 4,000 as fine to Naqvi.
The case pertains to the violation of imposition of section 144 in Rampur against the arrest of district president of BJP during the 2009 Lok Sabha elections. More than 200 people were named in the charge-sheet.
Reacting to the conviction, Naqvi said his legal team was looking into the judgment and that he would appeal against it.
