A city-based vendor allegedly conned e-commerce giant Flipkart out of over Rs.1.5 lakh by obtaining inflated sums after delivering substandard and fake car accessories to customers.
On Monday, the police arrested him following a complaint by Flipkart, who are now carrying out an internal probe to ascertain if he cost the company another Rs. 10 lakh.
Kamakshipalya police said the suspect, Ramesh Kumar, representing Nandi Electronics on J.C. Road, was a vendor attached to the e-commerce company to sell car accessories. “Following online orders, Ramesh delivered products such as car audio, seat pellets, car gadgets and other accessories to customers which were of inferior quality, or sometimes fake. However, he sent inflated bills to Flipkart stating original products were delivered and pocketed over Rs. 1.5 lakh,” said an investigating officer.
Three weeks ago, Flipkart representative Sivaramakrishnan lodged a complaint with the Kamakshipalya police against Kumar and a probe began. “The e-commerce company was flooded with complaints from customers, who received fake products, following which they approached the police. A preliminary probe revealed that Ramesh had used the online platform to deliver fake items and in turn billed for original products. He was arrested on Friday and remanded in judicial custody the following day,” the officer added.
