In what is being seen as the end of an online era, US telecom major Verizon Communications will acquire internet major Yahoo!’s operating business for approximately $4.83 billion in cash, subject to customary closing adjustments. At one point in time Yahoo! was worth over $100 billion and ruled the internet landscape before the likes of Google and later Facebook first caught up and then overtook it. The price being paid is also a lot less than what Microsoft had offered back in 2008, which was $44.6 billion.
