Videocon Telecommunications has charted out its strategy for the 4G roll-out in the country, which will take place by the 2013 end.
Speaking at the 4G World India, Arvind Bali, Director and CEO of Videocon Telecommunication said that the company has budgeted 4G roll-outs in the current fiscal year and hope to roll-out the networks in some selective circles initially.
He said that the company will be offering 4G data services through dongles, while voice services will remain on 2G. The company, however, has not shared any plan for Voice over LTE (VoLTE). “VoLTE will take time in India, given the state of the Indian 4G ecosystem,” Bali said during his presentation at the event.
The company has already selected vendors for the roll-out and has backhaul in place to support its to-be launched 4G networks.
While sharing the case study, Bali said that 40 percent of the 4G requirement global is coming on 1800 Mhz band, hence Videocon would be able to meet the expectations of the Indian 4G market.
On challenges, Bali said that device ecosystem is one of the major challenges for 4G in India and device availability and cost will catalyze the ecosystem going ahead.
Bali further stated that around 400 4G compatible devices are presently available in the market that supports FDD technology. Since Videocon would be going in for FDD deployment Bali feels that it will not face too many issues where devices is concerned since the global ecosystem is geared towards this technology.
