A youth, facing financial difficulties, took the help of his friend to kidnap his five-year-old distant cousin and demanded ransom, having been inspired by Bollywood flicks.
The duo, identified as Jitu Singh Tomar and Giraj, abducted Vivek from his home, while the family was engaged in a religious ceremony on Sunday.
The two made Rs 20 lakh ransom demand from the victim's family. On Tuesday, police arrested the duo and sent them to jail.
As per police, Jitu who regularly visited the victim's home, planned to abduct the kid. On Sunday afternoon at around 2 pm, the duo took the kid on motorcycle from his residence in Vijolpura village in Fatehabad area to Nai Abadai colony of Sikandra area where the accused Giraj resides.
On Monday afternoon, the accused made the ransom call to the victim's family and demanded the amount.
According to senior superintendent of police Preetinder Singh, "The kid was rescued from the home of one of the accused with the help of surveillance and crime branch team. Interestingly, the victim's father is a driver in a private company. Therefore, we assumed that it might be a close relative who had abducted the child and not some outsider or a gang, which often targets victim's from higher society." Police recovered two country-made pistols along with four live cartridges from the accused with a motorbike used in abducting the five-year-old. According to Jitu, "I needed money and drawing idea from Bollywood movie, I planned the kidnapping and executed it along with my friend." On the successful recovery of child, the SSP Agra announced to reward the police team with Rs 5000.
