Starting immediately, when viewers watch YouTube videos, they're going to find that the control buttons are no longer below the video. YouTube has updated its design to something more akin to Vimeo, where the controls float over the bottom of the video and then vanish when not in use.

The player now has a more minimal design with a new look for the buttons and drop-down menus. As always, it scales to your screen and embed size. But Flash users — aka those who haven't switched to the HTML5 player — won't get the new player. It'sHTML5 exclusive.

It was April when YouTube announced testing of the new player, when a handful of users were able to see it and try it out. It's now available to all, and users don't have the option of switching back to the old player.
