Important Pakistan Cricket Board fails to woo channels for upcoming series

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has come in for a massive and rude shock. According to sources, PCB has found no takers for its two upcoming series i.e the Pakistan vs Australia series and the Pakistan vs New Zealand matches to be held in the UAE this year.

The Board received bids from just two sports channels i.e PTV (Pakistan) and Ten Sports. The bid from PTV was rejected instantly because the bidding amount was far too less than what the Board had expected. Ten Sports on the other hand had submitted a bid amount of $2.9 million.

PCB, in lack of takers asked Ten Sports to increase its bidding amount, which the channel flatly refused. Sources say that the Board is surprised by the dwindling amount of interest shown by channels for cricket in the country. It remains to be seen what happens next.

In Pakistan there is only 2 takers TEN SPORTS and GEO SUPER. Only TEN SPORTS is the big fish in Pakistan just like STAR SPORTS here. I think TEN is concentrating for ICC rights tats a reason they don't wants to spoils the party right now. If GEO SUPER acquires the rights then your wish except TEN all other Indian Broadcasters can grab the rights of India.

GEO didnt bid.AFAIK PCB had to liquidate the bank guarantee to get money from GEO.


These 2 series deals wont get big bids as companies want long term deals to invest money and get back their investment.

Even BCCI had to sell their sponsor rights at a lower price for the coming WI series as its for 1 series only.

Also Pakistani team isnt filled with super stars any more so the international appeal isnt great and most viewers will be from Pakistan which is a small economy and Australia where the timings may be a problem.

But some months ago Geo Super and Sony Six jointly grab the right for just one series

Its sad that other broadcasters are not showing interest.
