We have mobiles working on different technologies. You get GSM+CDMA dual sim mobiles. Plus within GSM also, you have 2G+2G+4G compatible mobiles which work with as many as a dozen or more frequencies.
So, a STB can surely include a lot more such stuff. Its not really difficult.
Mobile portability has been adopted by a lot many people.Coz it is easier and won't cost you more than around 50 bucks. This wouldn't be the case with DTH portability...I have ported my number 3 or 4 times.
But it takes one week for complete process which I hateOnly Rs 19

But I am happy with my current network and not looking to do portabilityYeah and its necessary as two operators interact with a Govt mediator to follow the process of smooth transition but mobile services are effected only for some minutes or hours.
Nothing wrong in it you hardly miss out with network. But it takes one week for complete process which I hate![]()
Until and unless equipment were not made with particular standards nothing will happen also I don't think portability is practical in DTH.Plain thing is all mobile have similar manufacturing standard. They have same radio recievers and same sim slot where as in DTH we have MPEG 4 compression which do not work on a MPEG 2 STB. Also, Smart card size if different in various companies and not not follow any common international standard. So, its almost impossible for old users to get benefited with interoperability.
