"We will look into it. Government will come back with structured response," Telecom Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said on the sidelines of 'Good Governance Day' event organised by the Department of Electronics and Information Technology.

He was responding to media questions on Airtel's plan to charge for VoIP calls at standard rate of 4 paise per 10 KB on 3G network and 10paise per 10 KB on 2G network.
Airtel customers will now have to pay extra for making calls on Skype, Viber or other apps.

I think even communication minister made a statement to look into this news steps of Airtel. Thanks to today's online media who made a huge outcry of this new Airtel act. They may not succeed this time in looting us.
They may not succeed this time because of the uproar, but sure Sunil Mittal will keep trying with the help from lobbying firms, Cellular operators association & Trai........

That's the reason none of these operators aren't commenting anything because all of them are looking good revenue in such practice.

"Pre-paid customers who have purchased data plans before December 24 are entitled to use all services opted-for till their packs are consumed or expire, following which, the new terms and conditions on VoIP usage will apply," the company said.

Airtel said it has made huge investments in setting up its telecom network. "We believe that VoIP services in their current form are not tenable for us as a business.

As a result, we will charge separately for VoIP services." It launched an exclusive pack for VoIP services, pricing it at Rs 75 for 75MB with a validity of 28 days. "This will allow customers to make between 200 and 250 minutes of calling."

I doubt 75MB are sufficiant for 200 to 250 minutes of video calling.....may be 20-25 mins of video call is sufficient to consume 75 MB........
Rs 75 for 75MB so it comes out to Rs 1000 / GB plan.............
