HBO Asia, the regional pay TV leader and Eros International Plc, a leading global company in the Indian film entertainment industry, today made a joint announcement to launch two new premium advertising-free movie channels, HBO DEFINED and HBO HITS, in India. The channels will be available in HD and SD on both DTH and DAS platforms. Slated to go on-air in January, the subscription rate for both channels will be upwards Rs 100 per month.

This landmark collaboration between two entertainment giants brings the best of Hollywood and Bollywood together to redefine the pay TV movie space in India. The tie-up aims to bring HBO original content to India at a quicker pace.

This first ever exclusive alliance will also provide for the development of both HBO’s existing formats for India as well as the creation of original content for the Indian television market and international distribution. The alliance also provides EROS content an exclusivity window for 2 channels.

Kishore Lulla, Executive Chairman of Eros International plc said, “I’m very excited about building the Eros brand in Premium Pay Television, particularly with an industry leader such as HBO Asia. There are few global companies that have mastered the premium film and TV space like HBO and their global success says it all. We look forward to cultivating new spaces together in India and especially the development of HBO content for TV and online.”

“The opportunity to work with Eros, who has such a visibly dominant presence in the Indian film and entertainment arena, is tremendous and together we will aim to deliver a first class cinema experience in the comfort of your home, 100% advertising free,” said Jonathan Spink, CEO of HBO Asia. “We are equally excited to work with Eros in developing compelling original content for the Indian audience. We look forward to more good things to come.”

100 Rs is very low for a ad free channels, shwl bro u know how much ads r imp in india, 95 percent revenue comes from it. here u have 2 ad free channels just costing rs 100 for a month, man and u r calling it high. u will get so many movies ad free plus hbo original series ad free, what more do u want?
i belive they will price it Rs 200 or 250 after few months of launching if they gain more subscribers.
but most likely i believe that this type of ad fre ch will not succeed in india and ultimately it will have be a ch with ads

i could see only 100% ad free and not pricing as i find the price is more acceptible. If food food and zee edutainement channel costs rs.75 then im ready to pay for this channel.
Hmm... ur call. But still I feel, thats way too much amount. Even ZeeQ is demanding high money.
But I guess, if these channels will be apart of any pack, their pricing wudnt be that bad. Quite a no. of channels a-la-carte rate is very.
Even sony six is 40 rs per month. But available from basic packs onwards.
