But why petrol and diesel getting effected due to increase in service tax
As a result of additional excise duty (commonly known as road cess) levied on petrol and high speed diesel oil, the petrol and diesel prices were hiked by Rs.3.18 per litre and Rs.3.09 per litre respectively effective midnight.

The effective rates of road cess levied on petrol and high speed diesel oil was increased from Rs.2 per litre to Rs.6 per litre only.

The state-run Indian Oil Corp on February 15 hiked the rates of transport fuels following the recent volatility of international crude oil prices.

The price of petrol was increased by 82 paise per litre, while that of diesel by 61 paise per litre from Monday.
