I also want good MSOs to take over......................But I think big broadcasters like Star have their interests in DTH & like to see cable to perish...........They are working towards it..............They don't like the cable business model.....................So slowly but surely they will make harm to cable business directly or indirectly.................& we would see rise in DTH subscriber numbers.........................

Even Essel doing the same get rid from Siti Cable by launching Zing and funny thing is Zing having more economical pack then Siti in current scenario if people wants to see regional and national content.

What broadcasters want is transparency from the MSO/DTH operator.

Unfortunately, most MSOs including the big ones like Hathway work on a LCO franchisee model and in collusion with them, hide the actual number of subscribers. DTH operators are transparent that way.

So, its no wonder why broadcasters want to deal with DTH and not cable operators.

Thanks for the updated comparison.

But LNB and dish alignment issues are not frequent.

Yeah, but one cant say which DTH customer is facing it and who doesn't face. Due to the large footprint of DTH satellite, some or the other person can be facing such issues.

but how cud it be possible ? dth may also hide their actual subscribers as well. bcoz 46% are inactive subscribers which i m sure is not the correct no.
so i think dth as well as mso can do that if they wish to.

In Digital Cable Pic and Sound quality is superior than that of DTH as the carrier here is cable and no signal loss is there, and also because of signal boosters installed in each and every place the signal is very good. As Digital Cable enjoys a large bandwidth which it can add many channels without much compression, hence the PQ/AQ is excellent.

In DTH too the picture and sound quality is good but it depends on the compression techniques used. Some operators have limited TP and as there is competition, they try to compress and put in more channels as a result the PQ/AQ is decreased an not up to the mark.

Signal loss is present more in digital cable due to the distance, more the distance high the signal loss hence the repeaters are used to minimise the loss. Incase if one of the repeaters fail, then it is also a big headache for consumers as well as wire is cut.

In Digital Cable the issues are less, as the common cable carries signal to all and if there is any issue it gets rectified as many people will have the issue like cable cuts. STB problems also are few and can be rectified fast if LCO is close by and also if his technicians are close by. If u have a close friendship with LCO then u are a lucky person, as most of ur problems if at all u have will be corrected fast. Also most of the service visits are free.

In DTH there are lots of issues, like LNB problems, Dish Alignment issue STB issues and also line of Sight issues, many a times after a year or so people start facing signal issues due to faults in LNB SO this can be a individual problems and it can take a while to fix, but mostly within 2 days the issue is solved, but user has to pay for the DTH accessory and service visits..

Due to the wearability, the LNB fails after three or four years and in some cases the life time, depends upon the hardware and current supply. Signal issues are present during extreme rainy conditions.

Its not possible to hide customers in a DAS Digital Cable network. It functions the same way as DTH functions. there is nothing the LCO can do. In analog era such a thing was possible. But now Digital cable and DTH use same headend SMS and CRM systems.

Once a STB is installed and activated by CAF form, the STB is directly connected to the headend, same in DTH and Digital cable. So MSO/DTH knows how many subscribers it has, be it active or deactive.
