Alleging that the state authorities have not released them even after they have completed 20-year jail term, 130 prisoners lodged at Ranchi's Birsa Munda central jail wrote to President Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday demanding 'mercy killing' .
According to a report in Times of India, the prisoners claimed they are into extreme mental trauma because their children have been left with poor education and their family is living in abject poverty.
"The government gives compensation, jobs and looks after the family of Maoists who have butchered many, while we are being incarcerated beyond our due period. We regret our crime and vow not to ever repeat it. The government should release us," the prisoners' letter addressed to President, Prime Minister, Jharkhand Governor, CM and others, said.
