No body wanted to leave a governing council which is cash rich and a milking cow, most importantly now governed by government both directly and indirectly.

Also all the revenue earned are tax free and the amounts are directly into their coffers.

Actually Star/Espn only had ICC rights. They played their cards very nicely to take the entire cricketing rights across all boards just to ensure that they keep the competition at bay.
