Sprint king Usain Bolt, running in lane No. 6, made it a sprint double at the world championships in Beijing on Thursday night. The Jamaican outran American rival Justin Gatlin in the 200 metres final at the Bird's Nest, clocking 19.55 seconds. Gatlin, in lane 4, was second with a time of 19.74 seconds. This was 29-year-old Bolt's fourth successive 200m title at the world event.
Thirty-three-year-old Gatlin, a two-times doping offender looking to avenge his defeat by Bolt in last weekend's 100m, clocked the fastest time of the semi-finals in 19.87 seconds in Beijing, with Bolt second fastest in 19.95 going into Thursday's shootout.
A winner of an astonishing 10 of the last 11 individual Olympic and world sprint titles since shooting to fame at the 2008 Beijing Games, Bolt, who had been hampered by a pelvic problem earlier in the season, roared to victory on Sunday in the 100m in 9.79 seconds, retaining his world title by just one hundredth from Gatlin, the season's fastest man.
