The Supreme Court on Monday appointed its retired Judge Justice S B Sinha as an arbitrator to adjudicate dispute between former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu and television giant Star India over alleged violation of contractual deal between them under which the former BJP MP had agreed to work exclusively with the channel for three years.
Sidhu and Star have been at loggerhead accusing each other for not fulfilling contractual obligation. While the former cricketer accused Sports broadcaster for not making timely payment for his services, the Star India alleged that he had breached a contractual agreement of 'exclusivity' by working for its competitor.
The broadcaster alleged that Sidhu made himself available only for 40 to 45 days during the first year under the agreement, an allegation refuted by the former cricketer who contended that he had always made himself available as per the terms of the agreement. The contract was sign between them on October 23, 2013 and Sidhu agreed to appear in cricketing events as a commentator and anchor for the channel.
