India gets bids worth Rs 65,789 crore

As expected, the government of India has received bids worth about 65,789 crore on the fifth day of the auction of telecom spectrum after 31 rounds, according to the Department of Telecommunications, (DoT)

The government which was auctioning the largest ever spectrum 2,354 MHz across seven bands – 700 Mhz, 800 Mhz, 900 Mhz, 1800 Mhz, 2100 Mhz and 2300 Mhz. The radio waves can be used for 2G, 3G and high-speed 4G mobile services.

Around 60 per cent of mobile airwaves in value terms remained unsold in what was billed as the country’s largest spectrum auction where Rs 5.63 lakh crore worth of spectrum was put up for sale from October 1.

Vodafone pips Jio in spectrum auction


UK-headquartered telco Vodafone has committed bids worth Rs 17,500 crore, the highest in the auction till now, industry sources said. Reliance Jio is learnt to be next in the pecking order, with bid value of Rs 16,500 crore, followed by Idea Cellular at Rs 15,500 crore, Bharti Airtel Rs 13,500 crore and Tata Teleservices Rs 7,000 crore. Sources also said Tata Teleservices has committed Rs 550 crore in Mumbai alone to retain spectrum in the 1,800-megahertz, as its licence is coming up for renewal.

The telecom operators though maintained their indifference towards the coveted 700 Mhz and 900 Mhz bands.

Of the 2,354.55-Mhz up for auction, 956 Mhz has been sold.

I am not sure that how Govt. works but if they utilised those unsold waves for BSNL - MTNL then they would get additional income.

or they keep it for next auction.
As per telecom secretory next auction will not happen any time soon it going to be take time, before auction he personally advice telecos to buy as much spectrum as they can but telecos are busy competing with selected band and circle only. Nothing good for us.

But 700 and 900 won't go in charity to BSNL and MTNL. They are the most classic spectrum.
