HELP Home Theater For ADTV HD DVR

Hope you are all fine. I am posting after a long time.

I got Yamaha Home Theater YHT-196 for my ADTV HD DVR. I am bit confused, if I need Optical Audio cable to connect for 5.1 output or it can be transmitted also via the existing HDMI cable.

There are 3 "HDMI In" & 1 "HDMI Out" in the amplifier set. Also there is a Optical Cable in & Coaxial in.

Kindly help.

Also on what all channels I can feel the 5.1 effect.

by HDMI you can feel the 5.1 like videocon d2h.
by optical only you can fully enjoy the 5.1 Dolby Surrounding

all star group channels (except star sports 2 HD),Movies Now,Discovery,NGC you can get DSS 5.1.

no,only optical is required.but using HTMI is you can get virtual surround (sometimes it is rocking compare to original 5.1 given by optical).

but use only optical for experience the real 5.1 DSS.
