What is 4K Ultra HD?
4K Ultra HD is a new class of high-definition resolution offering unprecedented picture clarity and detail. Although the technology was already in use in film production and movie theaters, it is just now coming home to the television, offering nearly 4,000 (or “4K”) pixels across the screen’s horizontal.

Before 4K Ultra HD arrived, the highest-definition resolution on the TV market was Full HD 1080p, which consisted of 1920 x 1080 pixels, thus giving it its “1080p” name. 4K Ultra HD has four times the number of pixels as Full HD (3840 x 2160 pixels, or 4096 x 2160 pixels for cinema screens), resulting in its “4K Ultra HD” title. The increased resolution...even up close images seem clearer, more realistic, and less pixilated.made possible by 4K Ultra HD’s 8.3 million pixels (vs. Full HD’s 2.2 million) enhances picture quality by reducing gaps between pixels (called the “screen door” effect) and visible pixels (called “jaggies”). This sharpens detail and shows smoother lines so that even up-close images seem clearer, more realistic, and less pixilated.

Nice info share..this technology is need of time...!!!

If I'm not wrong all major TV players LG,Samsung n Sony-Bravia already jumped into this.
And now all major DTHs should also adopt this UltraHD-4K era into all coming HD STBs-DVRs.

My eye will be on latest happening of Videocon d2h's upcoming M-Star-ed manufactured HD STBs MPEG4.
Are they really going to offer is million doller question..since it's need of time..

Because in next 1-2 years we might see LEDs only coming with this tech.-UltraHD-4K rather than 1080P etc. and soon we see also prices will fall down too such a way that anyone can afford it.

So by that time again we can't go for upgrading again our existing HD STBs with... if they are not built up with this called technology...

Considering the bandwidth in UltraHD , in present Transponder space and technologocal specification, its almost impossible to have these services in India at present.

Good information..

Even though we buy these 4K Ultra HD tv, are there any tv channels or Blu ray videos available on this format to watch ?

If not what is the use of these TVs ?

There is a successor to MPEG 4 viz HEVC, which require only half bandwidth of precedent.
Also in transmission, after DBV S2 the next standard is DVB S2X. With these technologies we can see UHD Channels in some of the regions. FIFA WC is planned for UHD transmission. As per the road map, up to 2020, there will be 80% penetration of UHD TV & Channels in US. In India also from 2016 some one will try the benefits of HEVC , by ignoring STB cost comparing with Transponder availability and expense.

UHD 4K blu rey players and 4K master blurey discs introduced on April 2013 in US.In India only 4K up scaling players are available discs are not available. 4K TV s also very costly at present. So we have to wait some more time to apt this technology.

As per industry reports around 250 crores are spending by lg for the promotion of 4k tv. They are believing India is ready for 4k. They planned last year festive season 1000 tv , this year samsung , sony & lg are reduced the prices by half & expecting more sales.
Most probably tatasky will be the 1st dth in India to introduce UHD channel. Now they selected the STB manufacturer, who is having HEVC STB in their product line up.
One of the banglore based tata group company is masters in this latest compression standard.
Dth ops are having savings in terms of Transponder. By adopting this technology HD channels requires only 2.5 to 3 MHz & UHD 10 to 15 Mhz.
Current full HD (1080p) equals future UHD with HEVC & DVB S2X

Dont expect too early.even we are not getting 4K discs so UHD channel is out of question at present situation.

Good insights jayanji bro.

This much of bandwidth is still very expensive deal for Indian operators and even we won't be able to afford high pricing of such contents.

So, let the technology evolve further and become affordable to us.
