Although adapted from the UK’s ‘Big Brother’, ‘Bigg Boss’ in India has prompted the production house to shoot the first season of the franchise’s Chinese version called ‘Housemates, Let’s Stay Together’, in Mumbai. The first Chinese version of the reality format was recently shot at a derelict industrial complex on the outskirts of Mumbai. The reason for the Chinese version to be shot in India was to make use of the available resources, infrastructure and expertise of Endemol Shine India, which has already produced eight seasons of the Indian (Hindi) version of the franchise, in addition to two seasons in Kannada and one in Bangla. An Indian crew of 400 members worked around the clock on the production of the show. The Chinese team brought in their creative directors, story editors and remote camera operators; the rest was executed by the Indian crew. The set was designed as per the taste of the Chinese viewers and the entire cast had been flown down to India for the shoot.
