News ‘Court’ beats popular movies as India’s entry to Oscars

Marathi film ‘Court’ has beaten popular Bollywood films like ‘Bahubali’ and ‘Piku’ to become India’s entry to the Oscars. The other top contenders for the category were ‘Bajrangi Bhaijaan’, ‘NH 10′, ‘Haider’, ‘Kaaka Muttai’ and ‘Kuttram Kadithal’. Around 30 movies were in the race for India’s official entry. A 16-member jury headed by veteran filmmaker Amol Palekar were part of the process. ‘Court’, which is the saga of a radical poet accused of waging war against the state, will represent India in the best foreign language category at the awards ceremony.
