2012 was not a fruitful year for dubbed films. Overall 100 movies were dubbed from Hollywood, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi and other languages. Not one was able to make a mark. Let us evaluate some popular movies, which fared well in their languages but gathered dust in Tollywood.

The year started off with Shankar's much-awaited Snehitudu staring Vijay. Shankar who never had a track record of flop movies, tasted his first flop with this film. The film that came to theatres on 26th January 2012 bombed miserably.

Karthi who became Andhra's favorite Kollywood star also had his share of failures this year. The year started with Malligadu, which failed badly at the box office. Then came Shakuni, the much hyped film sank without trace. Though both Karthi's films fared badly, but his popularity is still intact.

With an unusual title, 3 did gather lot of interest. The song Kolaveri Di became as famous as our national anthem. From kids to oldies everyone was crooning "why this kolaveri di?" But when 3 came to the theatres it was a rude shock to the audience. The film's intense and dark mood didn't captivate the viewers. 3 became a memory that everyone forgot very soon.

Then came in Ajith starrer and much-publicized David Billa. The film was released in July. Ajith always had a market value in Andhra Pradesh. But David Billa failed to make an impact.

Makers of super hit Rangam brought in Nirantharam Nee Oohale. The film was a drastic failure. Jiva has a good fan following and market in AP. His film Mask which is a dubbed version of Mugamoodivanished in thin air.

We saw two films based on Siamese twins in 2012. One was Priyamani starrer Charulatha and other was Surya starrer Brothers. With an unusual concept of Siamese twins, both the films failed to attract the Telugu audiences.

Thuppaki staring Vijay was a super duper success it in Tamil Nadu but in Andhra Pradesh it ended up as an average grosser. The film did not collect more than Rs Six Crores in AP. But again, this is one film of Vijay that has done well to an extent in AP.

The recent release Gajaraju, which was Kumki in Tamil has started off well. The film has been appreciated for its scenic beauty and story. The film is very recent on turf and we are yet to see how it fares.

From the Hollywood film crowd we have had Spiderman 3 and Life of Pi that made some impact.

With 2012 almost ready to bid adieu we hope that Surya and Karthi and other popular Tamil actors in AP have a better say in 2013 in Andhra Pradesh.
