Aircel 4G to be launched in this year end

K. Sankaranarayanan, Strategic Business Head – South of Aircel , flagged off a 3G-experience bus that will travel along the length and breadth of the State especially to rural areas providing seamless 3G coverage experience, along the way. He said that soon Aircel would roll out a 4G experience.

Aircel already has the 4G spectrum and equipment is on its way. Installation work has been in progress and the 4G experience should be ready for its customers by December 2015.

Mr. Sankaranarayanan also said that Aircel which had 917 cell sites providing 3G services in 2011 has now touched a whopping 2624 towers in Tamil Nadu roping 10 lakh new unique data users. Aircel provides coverage for 96 per cent of the population in the State of which more than 40 per cent were using 3G services. Aircel has 1800 3G towers in Chennai besides 800 cell sites in rest of Tamil Nadu and Chennai for 2G coverage.

Aircel’s robust market expansion became possible with 7000 km of Optic Fibre Cable network and one lakh retail outlets. Data usage revenue of Aircel has increased from 3.2 in the first quarter of the previous fiscal to 6.3 per cent during the recently ended quarter.
