Making a Murderer premiered on Netflix on December 15, 2015, and is creating a lot of buzz on social media and around the world!
The doc series was directed by Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos and tells the tragic story of Steven Avery and the small community of Manitowoc County, Wisconsin.
In the 1980s, Steven Avery, a resident of the small town in Wisconsin, was arrested, charged, and convicted of a sexual assault and attempted murder. Throughout the process, Avery maintained his innocence and was released from prison 18 years later after DNA evidence from the scene proved his innocence.
Unfortunately for Steven and the rest of the Avery family, that was only the beginning of the problems. Because it is a ten-part series and so recently released, I won’t give away the rest of the details. You will just have to watch the series!
Making a Murderer is the only documentary series you’ll find in our ranking so far. For one, Making a Murderer is the best documentary series on Netflix right now. On top of that, Making a Murderer feels like a ten-hour movie or documentary (in a good way!), and it doesn’t feel like separate episodes, like other doc-series shows, including Chef’s Table, Planet Earth, etc. Those shows would likely rank in our 50 Best TV Showsranking, instead.
