An 80-year old man was sentenced to life by a trail court for killing his sister-in-law six years ago in the border district of Poonch in Jammu division. District and session judge Poonch Kishore Kumar after hearing the counsels awarded lifer to Lekh Raj of Jallas village on Friday.
Police had registered a case of murder under section RPC 302 in 2006.Police had also slapped a case under section 3/27 arms act against him.
The incident dates back to 2006 when Lekh Raj shot his sister-in-law by his riffle in the fields killing her on the spot. “The deceased was harvesting wheat when the incident occurred. He objected to her decision and shot her dead. He wanted to kill two- three people more but they fled from the scene to avoid his wrath,” said Chaudhary.
After committing the crime, the public prosecutor said, Lekh Raj fled to jungles to evade arrest. “He engaged police for full day in the jungles before he was caught. Though he was old man, he was physically fit,” he said.
