India on Sunday evacuated close to 700 nationals from Yemen, taking the number of those rescued from the conflict zone to over 2,300. While 488 were flown out of Sana'a by three Air India flights, over 203, including 200 foreigners, were evacuated from a port near Mukallah.
Foreign minister Sushma Swaraj said all Indians will be evacuated whether or not they had travel documents. She thanked AI for its effort in 'Operation Raahat' to pull out Indians trapped in several parts of Yemen amid raging fighting.
"AI conducted three successful flights out of Sana'a and evacuated 488 Indians. It was the largest evacuation so far," foreign ministry spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said, adding that evacuation from Aden was complete. He added that 203 people were evacuated from Ash Shihr — 182 Indians and the rest from seven other countries — by Navy vessel INS Sumitra.
