A day after Diwali, the air pollution across Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) on Thursday morning was “severe” with nearly six times the average levels of deadly PM 2.5 (particulate matter) that lodges itself in the lungs and increases risks of cardiovascular and respiratory diseases and even lung cancers.

According to the figures (till 9am Thursday) in the National Air Quality Index prepared by pollution-monitoring stations across Delhi, RK Puram had the highest level of PM 2.5 concentration at 405µg per cubic metre. This is nearly seven times the safe limit of 60µg per cubic metre.

According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), when air quality levels are “severe”, even healthy people are affected and those already suffering with diseases are seriously impacted.

RK Puram was followed by Anand Vihar with PM 2.5 concentration of 401 µg/m3, Punjabi Bagh (at 399 µg/m3) and Mandir Marg (at 372 µg/m3). The average level of PM 2.5 across seven pollution-monitoring stations of Delhi was 331, which is nearly five-and-a-half times the prescribed safe limit.

In the NCR region, levels of PM 2.5 in Faridabad, the city on the outskirts of Delhi, were recorded at 376 µg/m3.

The results are keeping in line with predictions of India’s meteorological department which had predicted that air pollution is likely to worsen after Diwali.

You are not getting the facts that already the air is polluted and after Diwali it goes up. I have seen people who got breathing problems suffering more after Diwali.

I said that why in Diwali ? Why not in 365 days. People allow to buy car drive car specially diesel car which cause more pollution as people drove it twice or thrice in day.

Why there is no article when civic bodies allows to do firework and do fireworks in a grand way of there own to boast themselves. Such examples are grand and closing ceremony of some event.

In fact recently somewhere in India did a fireworks in a grand way on a stadium. During 4th Odi between India v SA Rajkot stadium did a fireworks in a grand way.

I do agree that people causes from this and these things are coming down too, more and more people start migrating they would leave the Diwali behind and still someone have a problem and this is the right time to enjoy hill stations are other outer areas this is why people got or enjoy holidays

As said earlier before, already we are polluting it too much and so in addition to that we are doing it.
Why only diesel cars, what about bikes, scooters, taxis, flights, trucks and others that we are using to commute for our routine acitivites? It is stupid to compare with those and yes if we want we can reduce the usage of them considerably. On my part, i use public transports as much as i can or car pooling and avoided the buying of crackers too.
The political parties, civil parties or cadres and or in events burst crackers atleast once in a while here and there, but in a day we are bursting the crackers simulatenously throughout the day as well as disturbing the birds and animals.
The deepavali stands for lighting of our homes, so it is better to light diyas and enjoy the peaceful environment.

If civic bodies are allowed to celebrate for 1 day then we people also celebrating for 1 day only.

In cities you will find useless crows then any birds because they lives in peaceful environment and cities are no peaceful any day.

Talking about pollution with diesel vehicles are more then Petrol vehicle and if Govt. wants to ban then better, we can travel in a crowded bus or auto. If really people are against Pollution then agree we're screwing up it.

Also people should support Govt. if they bring some bills on life cycle of auto last time when Central Govt. banned 10 years old vehicle in Delhi people blamed them and called it as a Anti Indian bill.
