LTE Broadcast services trials based on eMBMS technology have been taking place all over the world but the big question is will Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel rollout LTE Broadcast Services.

As per GSA (Global mobile Suppliers Association) report, Reliance Jio’s trial is using Expway’s LTE Broadcast middleware for TV and push Video on Demand (VOD) and traditional LTE for fixed and mobile voice as well as for Internet whereas there is no mention of Bharti Airtel in the report.

Worldwide, over 30 mobile operators have opted for technical lab or field trials of eMBMS with a view to using it to reduce the load on their networks by broadcasting popular TV and video content rather than sending it to each viewer individually.

In order to rollout LTE Broadcast Services, Bharti Airtel and Reliance Jio need to tackle three issues – Make business case for LTE Broadcast deployment; increase availability of eMBMS-enabled devices at all price range; and increase media/content partnerships.

One of the biggest hurdles to the introduction of LTE Broadcast Services is the availability of supporting devices. GSA analysis suggests that nearly 100 devices (including phones, tablets, laptops, modules, routers hotspots and home gateways) have now either been used in eMBMS trials, or contain the chipsets that would enable them to be used for LTE Broadcast services. Of those, over 60 have been identified as being compatible with eMBMS middleware, and should be capable of software upgrades.

3G theoritical speed should be around 21mbps while 4G should reach around atleast 90mbps but in practical this is not possible and 4G reaches around 25-30mbps hence the telecos around the world adopted word "4G LTE ", an improved version of 3G.
