Hitting another all-time high, Airtel Digital TV’s average revenue per user (ARPU) has climbed to Rs 214 in the first quarter of this fiscal. Its last highest ARPU was at Rs 207 reported in the third quarter of the previous financial year, which subsequently fell to Rs 203. The company said that higher HD penetration and upselling of packs aided in the rise in the ARPU. ARPU in the June quarter of 2014 rose by Rs 17 from the earlier-year period (Rs 197). Incidentally, market leader Dish TV’s ARPU had remained flat at Rs 170 when compared on a Q-o-Q basis, or up 3 per cent when compared year-on-year (Rs 165). Airtel Digital TV also saw an upsurge in subscriber additions during the first quarter. The company added 376,000 subscribers in the quarter ending 30 June 2014 compared to 205,000 in the trailing quarter. In the corresponding quarter of the previous fiscal, it had added 352,000 net subscribers. The company’s total net subscriber base now stands at 9.4 million.
