Bharti Airtel is trying out a new advertisement model to offer pay-per-view movies on its DTH platform free to customers.

The free movie channels on Airtel Digital TV will sport advertisements throughout the film on the shoulder of the screen, covering a fourth of it, similar to advertisements during cricket matches.

Customers will still be able to view the paid version of movies for 25 to 100 a movie, with no advertisements. The free movie channel will at all times show viewers an option to watch the paid, ad-free version of the movie.

Freemium PPV comes alive on Airtel Digital TV



A pay-per-view (PPV) movie channel is not new for the direct-to-home (DTH) players, but an ad-supported free PPV is definitely new.

Airtel digital TV, the DTH service arm of Bharti Airtel has introduced an all new innovative PPV platform – the ‘Freemium PPV’ for its customers across the country. The service will enable subscribers to view popular Bollywood titles at pre-scheduled timings on its PPV platform for free.

The free movie preview will be available in a 3/4 screen, allowing space for L-shaped advertisements on the remaining 1/4th part. In case the customer wants to watch it in full screen, he or she can pay and do so.

Also, while customers enjoy free movie shows, producers get revenue from advertisements.

While the free movie will be available in a 3/4 screen, allowing space for advertisements, customers can view the movie full-screen by sending the SMS BOOK < 155 > to 54325 or by dialling 12150 from their registered telephone number (RTN).
