India’s leading telecom operator, Bharti Airtel, has announced that it plans to invest around $25 million in Malawi to develop the 3G network as well as offer subscribers Airtel Money services.
According to reports, Bharti Airtel CEO (International) and Joint MD Manoj Kohli said in a statement that their investment of $25 million in the development of the 3G network and introduction of Airtel Money are a clear demonstration of their commitment to deepen their network and bridge the digital divide.
He added that Airtel is committed to ensure Airtel Money services are within arm’s reach of the Malawian people. Further, Kohli also said that the 3G network will contribute significantly towards meeting the growing demand for high speed internet and wireless entertainment for large corporates, small and medium businesses and the youth in Malawi.
As per the statement made by the company, Airtel will also invest $10 million in green energy in Malawi by the end of the current financial year.
