Sellers on Amazon are seeing 8-10 fold growth during the festive sales compared to their daily sales, according to Gopal Pillai, director and GM, seller services, Amazon India. "Some sellers are even witnessing 20x growth. The Great Indian Festive Sale has seen twofold growth in terms of customers and units compared to Great Indian Freedom Sale and 4x growth compared to last Diwali," he said.

Pillai was speaking to ET on his one-day visit to Chennai. Amazon, which has around 1 lakh sellers on board, witnessed 24,000 new registrations in the month of September alone, which Pillai notes "is the biggest ever and unprecedented." While around 50per cent of the sellers are from tier-2, tier- 3 cities, the percentage of customers from those regions have increased to around 65 per cent," he added. Amazon had also launched an array of programmes for sellers such as Seller University, Amazon Trained E-commerce Specialists (ATES) and Easy Ship.

India being considered as the fastest growing segment within the Amazon group, programmes like Seller Flex have also been introduced for Indian sellers in which Amazon's fulfillment technology would be facilitated at the seller's' premise. "We started with two and have already launched 11 such facilities, 4 more are being launched by Diwali," Pillai noted. Amazon has also launched 10 fulfillment centres of its own this year just in time for Diwali.
