A spurt in crime in the past 24 hours, which saw the killing of an engineer and six others, has raised fresh question marks about the law and order situation in Bihar under Nitish Kumar's new administration. Talking to the police brass following the December 26 murder of two private construction firm engineers in Darbhanga, the chief minister had only on Monday warned that crime would not be tolerated in the state.
The body of 43-year-old Ankit Kumar was found at Barati village in Vaishali district on Tuesday morning. Vaishali superintendent of police Rakesh Kumar said Ankit was from Muzaffarpur. "He was the quality manager of a private telecom company," he said. "Ankit's throat was slit and his body was abandoned on the roadside."
Also on Tuesday, the body of 14-year-old Rahul was found at Satmalpur village in Samastipur district. The teenager had been abducted from the district's Pokhraira village three months ago.
On Monday night, a couple were stabbed to death allegedly by some relatives in Dhoom Tola in Katihar district. The victims were Khedan Das, 45, and his first wife, Soilita Devi, 34. Their 12-year-old son Deepak Kumar was injured in the attack.

Meanwhile, RJD supremo Lalu Prasad, whose party is a coalition partner in the Nitish Kumar government, has said those who had challenged the law and order during his rule were at it again.
"Those who had challenged law and order during my rule are doing it all over again," Lalu, facing accusations from the opposition of having brought back 'Jungle Raj', told reporters in Patna.
However, the grand alliance government faced fresh criticism in the wake of the killings with Union minister and LJP chief Ram Vilas Paswan alleging "Jungle Raj is back" in the state as predicted by the NDA.
