Hi fellow members,
Currently I am using Airtel HD and I am satisfied with it's AV quality. But they are not adding HD channels as often as TATA SKY is adding recently. Therefore I was thinking to shift to TATA SKY HD after my account expires.
The one thing I want to know is that the AV quality of SD channels is Improved after converting to MPEG4 technology compare to airtel or not.
Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You ask wrong question, ts picture quality is always better than any other. Its not matter it is in mpeg2 or 4. And yes mpeg2 or 4 never affect on quality, it is related with quantity.

What you want to say is that compression don't effect the AV quality. Its the quantity of channels on a tp that make the quality good or bad.

But one thing is for sure that same number of channels on two different tps with different compression technologies, that is MPEG4 and MPEG2, MPEG4 will provide better result in terms of AV quality.

Your statement is incomplete. You should say "MPEG4 will provide better result in terms of AV quality provided that the bitrate is kept same."

AV quality depends on bitrate(explicitly) not on compression ratio. I think you will understand it better if you have heard a mp3 song in both 128 bit/s and 320 bit/s. You will clearly see the difference. But again higher bitrate make files larger for example if a 128 bit/s mp3 file is 4 MB then then the same file in 320 bit/s will be around 10 MB. That's where better compression comes.

Compression ratio is something by which operator can use their valuable bandwidth more efficiently(which means add more channels) without reducing bitrate(i.e. Channel quality).

So the answer of your question is there will be no difference in AV quality(By migrating to MPEG 4) unless they change their bitrate. And I personally think that change of bitrate is not necessary as AV quality is very good in TATASKY at least from the day I have subscribed long back.
