Even idea doesn't offer 3G speed on 2g. But on toggling it to 3G, you get speeds better than 2G.
Any way to get 3G speed in AirTel with 2G recharge?

In airtel, 2G mode used to give better download speed for me. 3G mode was good for browsing.

Airtel and Vodafone completely deactivatr your 3g if you opt 2g data pack so not possible to access 3g network. Only idea gives facility to take 3g network irrespective of your 2g pack . I think speed is also Good in 3g network no matter your if you pack 2g because I am using same . I am getting idea 2g speed 150 to 200 kbps but network mode is 3g only (15 to 20kb) in 2g pack

I dont think so bro, in my view only opera and uc browser will increase the speed little bit.
I want all my apps to work faster- not only browser.
By the way, I activated a 3G pack for 4 days along with the 3 GB 2g pack. After the 3G pack validity was over , I could easily toggle it to 3G and get slightly better speeds than 2G.

Activating 2G packs does not toggle into 3G when the former is opted.
