The three news channels whose applications have been cleared include Bhole Baba Real Estate Developers’ NSN News, Naman Broadcasting and Telecommunications’ Prabhatam HSB, and Prabhatam Lifeline channels. The three news channels have got licence for Hindi, English and other Indian regional languages.
The non-news channels that have got clearance from the ministry are Squoosh Entertainment’s Fata Fati channel in Bengali language, Bhole Baba’s Daati Ahsas in Hindi, English and other Indian regional languages, and Cobol Communications’ Satkar in English and all Indian languages.
As many as five applications were cleared in the month of February while one, that of Bengali channel Fata Fati, was cleared on 3 March just before the enforcement of the election model code of conduct.
With the clearance of the six new channels, the number of private satellite channels in the country has gone up to 792. These include 392 news channels and 400 non-news channels.
