KUALA LUMPUR (June 15): Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd says it "does not know anything" about talk that the company is considering buying into India's direct-to-home business operator Reliance Digital TV.
"I read about it in the newspaper," chief executive officer Datuk Rohana Rozhan told reporters after the pay TV service provider's annual general meeting. "But as a matter of principle, we don't comment on rumours."
Pressed on whether Astro is denying that it is in talks with Reliance Digital TV, Rohana said: "I don't know anything about it and I am the CEO of this company."
The Times of India newspaper, quoting sources, reported earlier this month that Astro was performing a due diligence to buy into Reliance Digital TV, an entity under Reliance Communications, which is controlled by Indian tycoon Anil Ambani.
Asked about Astro's outlook for this year, Rohana said it is anticipating "strong" prospects. The group is cautiously optimistic amid the "formidably challenging operating environment", she said.
