Mehedi earns maiden call-up to Bangladesh ODI squad for SL series

Bangladesh's teen sensation Mehedi Hasan Miraz has been drafted into the One-Day International (ODI) squad for the upcoming three-match series against Sri Lanka, starting Saturday (March 25). The 19-year-old offspinner, who created ripples in his first Test series, picking up 19 wickets in the two matches against England at home, was an integral part of the Test side which notched up a historic win in their 100th Test against Sri Lanka last week, to draw the series at 1-1.

Despite being Bangladesh's top-wicket taker with ten scalps in the two-match series against Sri Lanka, Mehedi missed the bus for the following ODI series. Mehedi flew back home after the conclusion of the Test series, before being called up again. The teenager is expected to reach Colombo on Thursday (March 23).

Sunzamul Islam is the other uncapped spinner in the squad, while all-rounder Shuvagato Hom earned a recall.

Mehedi Hasan has 35 Test wickets to his credit alongside 27 List A scalps, and is expected to make it to the starting XI. Mehedi's inclusion means that Bangladesh carry a 17-member squad for the ODI series in Sri Lanka.

Bangladesh Updated Squad: Mashrafe Mortaza (c), Tamim Iqbal, Soumya Sarkar, Imrul Kayes, Mushfiqur Rahim, Shakib Al Hasan, Shabbir Rahman, Mahmudullah, Mosaddek Hossain, Mustafizur Rahman, Rubel Hossain, Taskin Ahmed, Subashis Roy, Sanjamul Islam, Shuvagata Hom Chowdhury, Nurul Hasan Sohan, Mehedi Hasan Miraz.

Siriwardana replaces injured Kusal Perera for Bangladesh series

All-rounder Milinda Siriwardana replaced injured wicketkeeper-batsman Kusal Perera for the first two One-Day Internationals against Bangladesh on Thursday (March 23).

Kusal featured in the warm-up game against Bangladesh in Colombo on Wednesday (March 22) and hit 64 off 78 deliveries before he was forced to retire.

The left-handed batsman hurt his hamstring on left thigh and is expected to feature in the third and final ODI at Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo.

"We have added Siriwardene into the squad in place of Kusal," Sri Lanka's Chairman of Selectors Sanath Jayasuriya told Cricbuzz.

Siriwardana captained Sri Lanka Board President's XI and made 32 off 29 deliveries. The hosts won the game by two runs after posting 354 runs batting first.

Kusal was dropped for the five-match ODI series against South Africa due to poor form, but regained his touch during the home one-day series against England Lions.

The first ODI between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka gets underway on Saturday (March 25).
