News Bengaluru: Helmet compulsory for pillion riders from today

Pillion riders on two-wheelers have to compulsorily wear helmets from today in Bengaluru. Violators will be penalized by the City Traffic Police as well as the RTO officials.

The government had given an 8-day relaxation to two-wheeler riders to get acquiesced to the new rule. Helmet wearing has been made mandatory for pillion riders in the wake of a ruling from the Supreme Court.

Though Bengalureans had protested against the imposition of the helmet rule, police are insisting that they follow it in view of the rising two-wheeler accidents in the city. Bengaluru has one of the highest two-wheeler numbers in the country at 3.4 million.
