As part of Prime Minister's Digital India Initiative, BSNL will increase the minimum broadband speed up to four times.

"BSNL is happy to announce the increase in the minimum broadband speed from 512kbps to 2mpbs for BSNL customers at no extra cost from October 1,2015. Customers will get four times faster internet speed without any extra cost," said a release.

Last week, BSNL Tamil Nadu circle (including Chennai) introduced a new lifetime time pre-paid plan called 'Pudhu Vasantham.' The plan comprises reduced tariff of 0.8 paise per second for any network (local/STD) for the new customers for three months along with free talk time for 1000 seconds on-net per month for three months. It also has 25 SMSes per month for three months and 50 MB data free for a month.

The cost of the plan is Rs 15 including the cost of SIM card. Migration is allowed for customers from other plans.

Yes the news was already shared I guess. Both the government players are providing 2mbps speed. Also there are talks of merging BSNL and MTNL
