News Cabinet amends Child Labour Act, those under 14 can work after school hour, during holidays

The Cabinet on Wednesday approved amendment in Child Labour Act which said children below 14 years can work in non-hazardous industries provided it is only during holidays or after school hours. The original Child Labour Law banned employment of children below 14 in only 18 hazardous industries.

The amendments also make it clear that children between 14 and 18 years will also not be allowed to work in hazardous industries.

The changes in the labour law also provide for stricter punishment for employers for violation. While there is no penalty provision for parents for the first offence, the employer would be liable for punishment even for the first violation.

This rule will make politicians & high profile to keep kids as servants and will preach the whole world that they are employed after the school hours or during holidays.

Well bro this will be helpful as in many families due to hard situations children are forced to work to sustain their family. Also if someone is deliberately tortured to do it then they can always complain

Now govt made it legal to keep child labour. Why would any child Complain. They can be easily threatened.

In family run businesses we can expect child to work but what about the RTE, won't it concede ?

It will definitely. This amendment has paved way to run away from punishment when caught in Child Labour.
